Sergei Banevich: THE SNOW QUEEN

One of Andersen’s most beautiful fairy tales as opera.

The opera was first performed at the world-renowned Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1979 and has remained part of its repertoire almost continuously ever since.
In this work, the composer introduces young audiences to the rich and complex world of opera, from a vibrant live orchestra and demanding yet melodic solo parts to the atmosphere of the theatre as a magical space of dreams.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beautiful fairy tales, the opera tells the story of two children, Gerda and Kai, on a journey in search of beauty. It is a tale of true friendship and growing up.

This operatic production for children has an educational character and holds the potential to captivate young and school-aged audiences, as well as entire families.
