“Passion can save us from emptiness, but it cannot save us from ourselves. Society loves passionate people. It admires the dust on their clothes, as long as they burn far enough away. It needs their sculptures, their names in the newspapers, their bodies on display in salons, and their downfalls, which make for good dinner conversation.”
The creators of the play step into the sculptor’s world through her relationship with art, family, her own talent, Auguste Rodin, and her longing for freedom. The story explores everything we as human beings are willing to sacrifice for what we love, and where passion as a creative force ends and its destructive side begins. It speaks of the desire to go further, to feel more, and to create something that will outlive us. And at the same time, of that moment when one realizes that on this journey, one can cross the boundary of oneself.
