Giuseppe Verdi: MACBETH

Macbeth from 1847 falls into the early stage of Giuseppe Verdi's work and is his first opera based on the great English playwright's work. Shakespeare's play and Verdi's opera are a dark drama of power, tyranny, violence, the paranoia of rulers, but also of unfulfilled marriage. The transience of power and the injustice of autocracy lead to the decay of society, to the madness of tyrants, and to their downfall. Verdi reworked the opera for its performance in Paris in 1865, and it is mainly from this version that we draw in our production, which aims not to be just a museum reconstruction of a famous story. It brings this story closer to the present, making it intimate, personal, and an everyday drama, finding in it also a sharp humor, thanks to which audiences can more vividly reflect on themselves and the world that surrounds us.
