Mazalán Connects Bach and Hesse, Raises Discussion on Equality and Tolerance

Another unique theatre production Už stačí / Ich habe genug will be presented by the Opera Company of the State Theatre Košice on Wednesday, December 1st, at 19:00 p.m. in the Historical Building ŠDKE. Peter Mazalán, the author, director, and soloist, all-in-one, connects one cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach with the texts of Swiss writer end essayist Herman Hesse, the Nobel Prize-winner for literature in 1946.

“The goal of the theatre project is to contribute to the discussion on equality and tolerance among people. Bach’s cantata combined with Herman Hesse’s texts bring an insight into the feelings of homosexually oriented man. Is Bach’s work only an aestheticizing beauty, pure form, to cover doubts, fear or lack of trust? Is this music of timeless quality, an emptied prayer representing only composer’s mastery? Is audience able to experience a new quality of contemplation and by means of deep listening in presence of a true, concerned person, open themselves to the understanding of human diversity and wish for better existence?” the author wonders in the definition of the project.

Peter Mazalán studied opera singing at VŠMU in Bratislava. In addition to music, he studied theatre scenography at VŠMU and the Faculty of Architecture STU where he received his doctoral degree.
