A cult comedy set in the theatre world, where the backstage plays one of the leading roles. Intelligent British humour laced with subtle irony. Michael Frayn places the story within a theatre company that is preparing a new comedy.
In the first act, we witness the dress rehearsal; in the second, the eagerly awaited premiere; and in the third, even a performance reprise. All of this is seen from different perspectives — from the audience, the actors, and actresses, to the stage manager and the set crew. Yet some fail to realize that the performance has already begun.
