Giuseppe Verdi: OTELLO

Shakespeare in a romantic musical dress

Italian musical genius Giuseppe Verdi praised William Shakespeare's climactic drama in a romantic musical form. The sharply cut and drawn characters of the roles move on the floor plan of a highly elaborate libretto, the plot of which graduates in a brilliantly pre-composed musical form. On the background of power efforts, we see intrigue Iago, jealous military commander Otello, and his wife Desdemona, who is strangled by Otello for alleged infidelity.
